5/24/2023 0 Comments The mark leigh fallon![]() ![]() The angst of the first book was that Megan discovered she was the embodiment of the Air element but her love, Adam was the Water element and all historical accounts indicate that two marked carriers could not be together romantically without bringing about horrible consequences. ![]() That said, I really did like the storyline of this series which involves the four elements of Water, Earth, Air and Fire and the marked ones, four teens, that carrier the individual elements and are suppose to ultimately allign them all into harmony. This really helps the story, there is nothing like a male narrator trying to do female character too high pitched or a too aged narrator trying to sound like a 17 yr old girl to put you off an audiobook! Five stars all the way for her Irish, English and all accents as well as sounding like a teen girl and a masculine 18 year old boy! Amazing. The narrator does excellent accents, she also does male voices just as well as female and young as well as older quite believable. Great narrator, good story, 3rd book please ![]()

Cooney, one of my other favorite Point Horror authors, she has way more hits than misses, which can't be said for other authors. She seems to have a really good formula going and, like Caroline B. Will 100% be checking out more of her stuff, though. There were some great lines in here about grief and getting over trauma and also some good zingers (check my Goodreads status updates), but apart from that, it was pretty bland. Three, I don't know, I was just really bored. Two, it's way more dated (party lines? LOL), whereas, THE DRIFTER felt kind of timeless. One, it just didn't have the same level of suspense and drama and atmosphere. I don't think this one works quite as well as THE DRIFTER did for a couple reasons. Hot dangerous guys, strong but kind of dreamy heroines, and sort of a modern gothy vibe. Richie Tankersley Cusick writes a lot of my favorite tropes. ![]() There's townies and tourists and all the hot young things are lifeguards, and it should basically be 90s teen paradise. ![]() The heroine, Kelsey, goes to this beachy island with her mom to meet her mom's boyfriend and his kids. So far this is my least Cusick book I've read as part of my experiment. Is there anything more 90s than a horror novel set at the beach? I don't think so. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Deathwish by Rob Thurman![]() Rob Thurman injects sarcastic humor in the internal monologue and convincing dialogue while still keeping it gritty and dark. Again I'm not sure of the issue because the book checks off some positive points.įirst, the writing is well-done. Despite all these interesting changes compared to other books I've read in the same genre, my interest - while there - will only stay there on an average level. It's a unique series that offers a different groove of Urban Fantasy tropes: male lead two brothers fighting against the world a dark, demented elfish race lack of strong romantic interest for the male lead no supernatural powers for the lead. I've now read four books in this series, and the same issue remains for me. Freud would've been in a corner sucking his thumb after one session with us." We have atomic-powered, demon-flavored, fresh-from-the-pits-of-hell, full-blowing fucking neuroses. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Prelude by Madeleine L'Engle![]() I'm not sure why I stopped to read this particular one, but I liked the French name in the title, and the imperative. ![]() ![]() I came across "Gilberte Must Play Bach" in one of those. There were dozens of boxes and binders, including ones with A Wrinkle in Time, The Arm of the Starfish, and A Wind in the Doorwritten on them, but I wasn't interested in the manuscripts of stories that could be read as real books: I was more curious about the scraps and stories and studies in the other boxes. The manuscripts I was poking about in were housed in repurposed ream boxes with words like "Eaton" and "Corrasable Bond" on the sides, and in black three-ring binders whose leather casings were beginning to crack. I'm not sure who christened it "the Tower," but the name was used ironically by both her and the rest of the family, an acknowledgment of the privilege of solitude and time. The Tower was just a room over the garage in the eighteenth-century New England farmhouse where she and my grandfather had lived and raised three children during the 1950s and where they still spent weekends, holidays, and long stretches of summer. ![]() I was about nine years old, curiously but quietly poking about my grandmother Madeleine L'Engle's manuscripts so as not to disturb her writing and risk losing the privilege of keeping her company in her "Ivory Tower" while she worked. ![]() 5/24/2023 0 Comments Cole clayborne julie garwood![]() ![]() They eventually settled on a piece of land they named Rosehill, deep in the heart of Montana Territory." One White Rose is the second novel of "The Clayborne Brides" trilogy, part of the Rosehill series than began with Julie Garwood's novel For the Roses. Runaway slave Adam, pickpocket Douglas, gunslinger Cole, and con man Travis survived by protecting one another from the older gangs roaming the city. We're also reminded that the LGBT and coming-out experiences are different for everyone and also a lifelong journey we take. She also provides us with great diversity - we have lesbian, aromantic, asexual, bisexual, and trans (I use this one as its umbrella term because two of the characters' identity aren't actually stated, I think?) representation as well as the use of neopronouns. I loved the characters as well and Alex writes them unique and with different facets to each of them. So it's pretty much the same formula we're familiar with, but it achieves it in a more modern, adolescent perspective. The storyline isn't anything unique, especially because it's intended to be a rom-com and references so many of the classic rom-com movies. The Cupid Column delivers with a great storyline and diverse characters. ![]() I don't know how Alex nails it every single time with every single book, but they do □ ![]() Thank you, as always, to Alex for giving me the pleasure and privilege of reading an early copy!!
